Statistics from Day 1, 4th Test

10 This was the tenth instance of India fielding an XI with all of them having a first-class century to their name. This is the second time this has happened this season after the Mumbai Test against England. The last time it happened before this season was way back in 1993, in a Test against Zimbabwe in Delhi.

0 Chinaman bowlers to make Test debut for India before Kuldeep Yadav. He is the second Chinaman bowler from sub-continent after Lakshan Sandakan, who made his debut last year against Australia in Pallekele.

25 Consecutive Test matches captained by Virat Kohli, before missing out on this Test, the first time he sat out of a game owing to an injury. The ones to lead India more in successive Tests are Mohammed Azharuddin (37 Tests), Sourav Ganguly (33) and MS Dhoni (27).

131 runs scored in 31 overs by Australia is the most by any team in the opening session of first day's play in this home season for India.

8 Instances of Umesh Yadav dismissing Shaun Marsh in Test cricket - the most time he has dismissed a batsman and the most Marsh has got out to a single bowler. Marsh scored 105 runs off the 252 balls he received from Umesh.

99 Innings taken by Smith to score 20 Test hundreds - the fourth lowest among all players to reach the milestone after Don Bradman (55 innings), Sunil Gavaskar (93) and Matthew Hayden (95).

6 Smith became the sixth visiting player and second captain after Alastair Cook (in 2012), to score three or more hundreds in a series in India. The other to do so are Everton Weekes, Gary Sobers, Ken Barrington and Hasim Amla.

3 Smith has now scored a hundred in the maiden Test of each of three latest venues in India - Pune, Ranchi and Dharamshala. The others to do so in three away venues are Pasty Hendren (Brisbane, Port of Spain and Georgetown) and Simon Katich (North Sound, Nagpur and Cardiff).

79 wickets taken by R Ashwin in 13 Tests - the most by any bowler in a season in Test cricket. He went past Dale Steyn's record of 78 wickets from 12 Tests in the 2007/08 season.

3 Kuldeep Yadav has become the third Chinaman bowler to take four wickets in an innings on his debut after Chuck Fleetwood-Smith (4/64 vs SA, Durban, 1935) and Laskshan Sandakan (4/58 vs Aus, Pallekele, 2016).

4 wickets taken by Kuldeep is the second most for an Indian bowler on his first day in Test cricket. Mohammad Nissar took five in India's inaugural day in Test cricket in Lord's in 1932 while Mohammed Shami also picked four against West Indies in Kolkata in 2013.
