Australia vice-captain David Warner has voiced his incredulity at claims by India off-spinner Ravi Ashwin that injury reduced him to well below his best form in recent outings. Ashwin, India's most potent Test bowling weapon and the world's top-ranked Test bowler who this month became the fastest (in games played) to claim 250 Test wickets, looms as the greatest threat to Australia's batting in the upcoming four-game series.
He has taken 61 wickets in nine home Tests against New Zealand, England and Bangladesh over the past six months despite suffering from the effects of a sports hernia – a soft tissue injury in the lower abdomen or groin – that he claims has rendered him able to "perform only 60-70 per cent of my potential".
The revelation clearly wrong-footed Warner, who will be one of the key wickets targeted by India's bowlers during the Qantas Tour that formally begins with the opening Test in Pune next Thursday.

The training session of the Australian cricket team is in full swing at Pune. However, the practice sessions are also divulging some of the tactics and combinations that the Aussies might employ against India.
For now it seems that Usman Khawaja will most likely miss the first test as fellow Queensland opener Matthew Renshaw looks set to take his place in the first Test.
This assumption can be made from the fact that Usman Khawaja was seen training in isolation for most of Australia’s first practice session in Pune, while the vast majority of the squad went about their routine warm-up of stretches, exercises.

Captain set to bat at three in first Test to break up sequence of left-handers in Australia's top three
Australia captain Steve Smith says he will likely bat at No.3 in the first Test against India in order to break up the trio of left-handers in the tourists' top order. Smith batted predominantly at No.4 during the home summer but is set to shuffle up one spot to disrupt the southpaw sequence and the threat of India's ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
