Hacker group Anonymous Operation India (AnonOps India), hacked Bharatiya Janata Party’s website, BJP.org, last night, and defaced it, posting a set of messages with pictures, reflecting the group’s condemnation of recent events including the government’s approval of 51% FDI in multi-brand retail, diesel price hike, corruption, the cartoon controversy, and the Kudankulam Power Project, among others.

The group also posted a YouTube video with a message from anonymous saying that the group’s been observing the deteriorating condition of free speech in India, and the government’s attempts to block social media, and asked people to stand up and participate in the #OccupyIndiaground protest, which according to the message starts 23rd September 2012 (this Sunday) 3pm at India Gate, Delhi, Freedom Park, Bangalore, Marine Beach, Chennai, Park Street Crossing, Kolkata, MG Road, Pune and Subhash Park, Kochi.

t the time of writing this post the site has been restored. Last month, Anonymous Operation India (AnonOps India), had defaced the online magazine of the Indian Youth Congress – Yuvadesh.com, in support of India Against Corruption and protests against alleged internet censorship by the Indian government.
Earlier, Anonymous Operation India defaced the official websites of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited, All Indian Trinamool Congress (AITMC) and several websites related to the Mizoram government including the Mizoram Police website, Social Welfare website, Agriculture (Research & Education) Ministry, Mizoram Food And Allied Industries Corporation and many more. It had also taken down the Indian Supreme Court’s website and the official website of the All India Congress Committee, in its response to Internet censorship in India through DDoS attacks. It had alsohacked into Reliance servers and were redirecting users who were trying to access websites including Twitter, to a page on which they had given a 24 hour deadline to the Indian Government to re-enable the group’s suspended Twitter account.
On June 9, 2012 Anonymous OpIndia also conducted a nationwide on-ground protest across 18 cities in India including Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, among others, asking citizens to protest these blocks by wearing a mask and offering materials like banners and flyers for the protest (Check out: What happened where).
