Samsung Galaxy Tab will soon receive an update to its OS, with Android 2.3 a.k.a. Gingerbread, according to a report. The update will improve the UI of the 7-inch tablet and make copy-paste better. Also added is near-field communication (NFC) support, though it is not really of any use in this case due to the lack of NFC-supporting hardware in this tablet. There was a general anticipation that Samsung may update to Honeycomb directly, rather than hopping over to Gingerbread first, but that does not seem to be happening as we can see here.

You can download and apply this update to the tablet through Samsung's PC software - Kies. If you consider yourself an expert and don't mind taking a little risk, you can download it from a website such as samfirmware.com and use a compatible software to flash the tablet.
