Does that mean the Prime Membership price is offered at 900 - 500 = 400?

No bro that's not the case. Some users are getting Amazon Prime for 999/- at their Buy Subscription page only.

While some have to 1st redeem 500/- coupon and then they will get the prime at 999/-.
To use 500/- minimum value MUST be 1499/-.
So coupon will not work for those who are getting it already in 999/-.

Maybe they are reducing the price of Amazon prime to ₹999 with ads in videos and with the ad-free add-on the price would be ₹1699 so it's an effective hike of just ₹200 over the initial ₹1499 price.

I would suggest disable auto renewal and manually renew and depending upon what plan you opt for you will get the highest possible cashback applicable for that denomination.
