Airtel must've added 2-3 towers in each of those 235 cities to claim a larger 5G footprint than Jio. Real coverage is when you are connected to 5G on the move across the length and breadth of the city, atleast outdoors if not indoor.
Most of the places added by Airtel are gram panchayats or municipalities near to the same city where Airtel has already 5g coverage For eg: Kalamassery, Thrippunithura are basically outskirts of kochi in Kerala but Airtel showed as separate cities this is basically cheating people and their investors

Same here in TN Tiruvallur is outskirts of Chennai and Sulur and palladam are outskirts of Coimbatore and Tiruppur

Observed same in Telangana, 2-3 cities listed are like part of Hyderabad or outskirts of Hyderabad. To increase count they are showing them as different cities on the list :)

One
That's how they added Gurgaon, Gaziabad Faridabad and Noida as each cities but all comes under NCR circle
one interesting thing that NIA spectrum auction 2022 had was,
mandatory rollout obligation
and although till end of 1 year, means by 15 august, operator should ahave 1 Tower/BTS in 1 circle to be get qualified as rollout complete

definitely, if airtel or vi or jio launch just 2-3 bts in cities like Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Patna, Bhopal. means circle rollout is completed.

secondly implicit was phase 2 rollout, which says appox 50 BTS per town, IIUC , 1 tower has antenna, so it would be 17 towers appox (or 50 towers per town) in circle , within august 2025, 3 years.
third phase mandate, rural areas outide cities, which may be under gram panchayat must also be covered, so sular town is rural town, even though its just 15km from Coimbatore city.in 5 year, August 2027
in simple way, TRAI, DOT has changed lens through which they operate, thus we as end users and onlytech members must view this from different perspective.
a TYPICAL user, say student, housewife, Shop owner, office/factory worker from thane. vasai, Sulur , palladam, Kalamassery would generally dont going to visit a BTS which is 10-50 KM from his/her small town daily to enjoy 5g speed or download heavy file on unlimited 5g speed.

so it makes perfect sense for airtel/vi/jio to install 5g, initially patchy then carpet coverage at customer location and make count of BTS/city/circle and
no Harm is advertising it.

only overloaded network and drops calls make experience worst, which we observed/experience in 2017 with jio.
