The 2026 Commonwealth Games is barely five years away, and still doesn't have a host on paper. The next edition, nine months from now in Birmingham, could be the last of the kind of Games as we know it. Wholesale changes - co-hosting, downsizing number of events, hosts being offered the prerogative of choosing sports, among others - are set to be put into motion to equip the quadrennial event to survive the pangs of time and the question of its relevance.

The "2026-2030 Strategic Roadmap" is geared toward not just cutting the flab off the existing 19-sport, 270-medal event but also incentivising hosting the Games. Hosts being able to pick sports of its choice and playing to their strength could skew medals in its favour. It's a willing barter for CGF. "The pandemic has highlighted the need for hosts to have more flexibility in shaping the event. We feel it is an exciting move to allow hosts the ability to propose entirely new sports, relevant to their nation or culture," Dame Louise Martin, Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) president told ESPN. "Clearly, the size, scale and costs of the Games are key concerns for any potential host."

They need to include the game of the Commonwealth, Cricket. And India should come forward to host it.

though it might seem like a good idea, they should not include cricket as it would lead to further undermining of other games and even news channels would end up with over enthusiasm try to promote more cricket as it would be introduced newly , there are only fewer events where other sports manages to get right coverage .

Women's cricket already included in 2022.
So, there is high chance for cricket in 2026 and specially if they want to include in 2028 Olympics.

And as India is thinking to bid for 2036 Olympics, cwg bidding might not happen.

Olympics is a useless burden where 90% host countries ends being in debt. We need to host midsize events like Commonwealth Games.

I disagree here bro. It is Commonwealth Games. Cricket is the Commonwealth game. Having popular sport like cricket will bring more eyeballs to other events.

Haha BCCI money crocdiles won't give importance to this coz it's representing nation instead any corporate or Political personality .. they won't get much profit in this instead of CWG they will happily fly to srilanka and play thats history

After Australia failing again to host another major event. India might step in to host 2026 Commonwealth Games. City of Ahmedabad might bid for upcoming Commonwealth Games.

If they host hope it wont be a disaster like Delhi

Big stadiums where roofs and all were falling off. All the stadiums were half empty most of the time. Unnecessary expenditure and unused stadiums.
