With the help of MPLAD funds released from Pralhad Joshi, Dharwad MP, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is planning to create 17 free Wi-Fi zones across Dharwad district and the first such zone was launched at old KSRTC bus station in Hubballi on Thursday.
A simple registration process has been put in place and users will only be able to download 200MB of data at 4 Mbps per day.
Launching the new facility in the presence of Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Manjula Akkur, Deputy Mayor Laxmi Uppar, General Manager of Dharwad Telecom District of BSNL Vivek Jaiswal, Mr. Joshi said that the initiative was part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India.
With advent of technology, the Internet had become part of day-to-day activities and had become a tool in ensuring a corruption-free governance.
Mr. Joshi said that a similar zone will be launched at Shirur Park in Hubballi and Kadapa Maidan in Dharwad on Friday. Wi-Fi services will also be provided at Akshay Park and Durgad Bail in Hubballi and Jayanagar 2nd Cross, KCD Circle and Vidyagari in Dharwad shortly, he said.
Mr. Joshi also called upon municipal councillors to use funds available to provide free Wi-Fi services in their wards with the help of BSNL.
Rural and semi-urban areas like Alnavar, Kalaghatagi, Navalgund, Annigeri, Kundagol, Bankapur, Shiggaon, Savanur and Harobelavadi are the other locations where free Wi-Fi zones will be created by BSNL shortly in the district.
