Carl Mumba named in Zimbabwe squad for tri-series

Carl Mumba, the 21-year-old pacer who impressed in the Test series against Sri Lanka, stands a chance to make his One-Day International debut when the hosts play Sri Lanka in the ODI tri-series opener at the Harare Spors Club on Monday (November 14). Senior pacer Tinashe Panyangara was also named in a 16-man Zimbabwe squad for the series featuring the hosts, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

The 31-year-old seamer is in line to play his first game in the 50-over format since November 2015 with an injury forcing him to miss his side's most recent assignment against India in June.

The squad, led by Graeme Cremer, sports a drastically different look to the one that was blanked 0-3 by the MS Dhoni-led Indian team. Twenty-two-year-old batsman Tarisai Musakanda is another who could be handed an ODI cap over the course of the series as Zimbabwe look to overturn their flagging fortunes in the 50-over format.

Besides Panyangara, Zimbabwe also welcome back Brian Chari, Chris Mpofu in the squad. From those who were named for the ODIs against India, Tendai Chatara, Neville Madziva, Timycen Maruma, Wellington Masakadza, Tawanda Mupariwa, Richmond Mutumbami, Taurai Muzarabani miss out.

Zimbabwe, placed 11th in the ICC ODI Rankings, are winless in their last four ODI assignments, which included two series against Afghanistan. Their last series win came against Ireland in October 2015.

Squad : Graeme Cremer (C), Brian Chari, Tarisai Musakanda, Carl Mumba, Christopher Mpofu, Hamilton Masakadza, Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, Peter Moor, Donald Tiripano, Tinashe Panyangara, Sikandar Raza, Tendai Chisoro, Malcolm Waller, Elton Chigumbura

Darren Bravo axed over 'inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour'

Darren Bravo , the West Indies batsman, has been axed by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and been sent home from Zimbabwe, where he was part of West Indies squad for the tri-series also involving Sri Lanka, for his 'inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour'.

The decision comes after Bravo's expletive-filled outburst on Twitter towards board president Dave Cameron, who, in an unprecedented move, went on record to explain the reason behind giving the left-hander a Grade C contract, which the player turned down . Jason Mohammed, who led West Indies A on tour of Sri Lanka in October, has been drafted in as Bravo's replacement.

As per a WICB statement, Bravo had been "replaced due to inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour, which is contrary to his contractual obligations to the WICB". It further stated, that a clause in his contract "clearly states not to make any statement in or to any form of media (which shall include, without limitation, print media, television, radio, internet or any social networking media), or any other public statement, which would bring yourself, WICB or any official or authorised representative of WICB or the game of cricket into disrepute, and your agreement to use all such media in a responsible manner."

Cameron pointed fingers at Bravo's average, despite the top-order batsman scoring 3400 runs in 49 Tests at an average 40. Bravo was also the second highest run-getter for West Indies, behind Kraigg Brathwaite, in their recent Test series against Pakistan in UAE. The negative reviews for his batting could have stemmed from his poor returns during the four-match Test series against India at home, when managed just 139 runs.

"If you continue to keep giving him an A contract then what is the motivation to get better? He has been on an A contract and he hasn't done well," Cameron had said, to which came Bravo's outburst on twitter which wasn't taken lightly by the board.

"You hav been failing 4 d last 4yrs. Y don't u resign and FYI I've neva been given an A contract. Big id*ot @davec51," [sic] Bravo had tweeted

The statement also confirmed that lead spinner Sunil Narine had returned home, due to personal reasons, and has been replaced by Devendra Bishoo, whose last ODI outing came way back in October 2011.

The tri-series begins on November 14 with Zimbabwe hosting Sri Lanka, before West Indies take on the latter on November 16 to get their campaign underway.

West Indies squad: Jason Holder (captain), Sulieman Benn, Devendra Bishoo, Carlos Brathwaite, Kraigg Brathwaite, Jonathan Carter, Johnson Charles, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shai Hope, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Ashley Nurse, Rovman Powell
