Yogendra Pal Singh, who has worked with the Indian Police Service and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been named the new head of the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU). He takes over from Ravi Sawani, who will remain involved with the ACSU as a consultant.
YP Singh, 55, served in the Indian police for 30 years, and at the country's premier investigating agency, the CBI, he worked as joint-director in charge of anti-corruption. At the ACSU, he will play the role of working head, alongside chairman Ronnie Flanagan.
ICC chief Haroon Lorgat, while commending the outgoing head, Sawani, for the work he has done, said YP Singh would bring in a fresh outlook to tackling challenges that lie ahead. "He [Sawani] has been instrumental in ensuring the ICC has retained a zero-tolerance approach [towards corruption]," Lorgat said. "We are fortunate to have a person with YP's experience to take over.
"As recent events have shown, the menace of corruption in sport is real, but with the measures we have established the public can be confident that the integrity of the sport is maintained. We must, however, remain vigilant and YP will bring with him a fresh outlook."
