Yahoo Groups will shut down on 15 Dec 2020

Yahoo has put the final nail in the coffin for its social media platform Yahoo Groups, announcing on Monday that the 20 year-old service will shut down on Dec. 15, 2020.

Yahoo Groups, which was aimed to help users stay connected to their community and friends, has seen a “steady decline in usage over the last several years,” the Yahoo Groups team shared with users in an email.

Starting Dec. 15, the Yahoo Groups website will be inaccessible as will its services, including sending and receiving emails.

I used to use them a lot. Obviously completely replaced by Whatsapp and Telegram groups now. But then those Yahoo Groups were fun related ones....images, jokes, images with lines that were compatible with Nokia phones, etc. etc.

They sent a clarification mail:

Dear Yahoo Group Moderators and Members,

We recently announced that groups.yahoo.com (Yahoo Groups) and its list service will shut down on December 15, 2020. We would like to clarify that there will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services. For example, your Yahoo account will not change and there are no changes to Yahoo Mail.

The only change on December 15, 2020 is that you will no longer be able to visit the Yahoo Groups website at groups.yahoo.com or use its mailing list features.
