Xiaomi, the Chinese phone maker that has
created buzz in India with its aggressively low
priced-products, was hoping to launch the
RedMi Note around Diwali. But it looks like
there is some delay. The company is facing
some logistic problems due to the festive
season in India and is now hoping to bring the
RedMi Note, a phablet with 5.5-inch screen, to
India by end of November.
Hugo Barra, vice president international
markets at Xiaomi, told IndiaToday.in that the
company was still ironing out a few logistic
issues ahead of the RedMi Note launch. "This
month is interesting because this is Diwali here
and bringing the device in large quantities is
turning out to be much more difficult. We can't
even charter a plan to bring units to India from
factories in China due to the rush," said Barra.
He added that the company was also polishing
the RedMi Note software. "Depending on the
feedback we have got for the earlier products
that we launched here, we want more thorough
field testing for the RedMi Note in India. We
are using the latest MiUI software on it and
trying it out in various conditions. In India,
weather is hotter compared to most of the
other markets where we sell RedMi Note. We
want to make sure that when the product
reaches market, it is flawless," said Barra.
Xiaomi has already announced the price for
the RedMi Note. It has been priced at Rs
9,999. The device is powered by an octa-core
processor running at 1.7GHz. It has 2GB RAM,
720P screen resolution, support for two SIM
cards, 8GB internal storage and provision to
add up to 32GB microSD card. The device has
a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel
front camera.
While the RedMi Note launch is delayed
slightly, Barra said that for now there is no
change in the Mi 4 launch plan. "We are
hoping to bring the Mi 4 to India by the end of
this year or early next year. That remains the
planâ?¦ and we will launch Mi 4 with the MiUI
6," he said.
