Xiaomi has launched two new successors to the popular Redmi 3 smartphone line up - Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A.

The 4G VoLTE capable smartphones come in three variants: Redmi 4 Pro Edition, Redmi 4 standard edition, and the Redmi 4A.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro edition comes with a 5-inch display with 1080p resolution and 2.5D curved glass. The device is powered by a 2.0 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor that's backed by 3GB RAM with 32GB of storage option. The Redmi 4 Pro sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, and a 5MP selfie camera.

The device is backed by a similar 4,100 mAh battery that was present on the Redmi Note 3. The phone runs on Android Marshmallow OS and Xiaomi's latest MIUI 8 on top of it.

The Redmi 4 standard edition comes with a similar size display and is powered by a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 430 processor that's backed by 2GB RAM with 16GB storage space. Other specifications remain the same as the Pro version of the phone.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4A on the other hand, is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor that's backed by 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The battery on the Redmi 4A is smaller at 3120 mAh as compared to the other two devices.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4 Standard edition is priced at CNY 699 (approx Rs 6,910), the Redmi 4 Pro is available for CNY 899 (approx Rs 8,887) and the Redmi 4A is priced at 499 Yuan (approx Rs 4,933).

The devices might make it to India in December 2016. Xiaomi's one of the biggest market outside China is India and they got the Redmi 3 series to India within one month of its China launch. Something similar can be expected with the new Redmi 4 devices as well.

Xiaomi Redmi 4A to launch on March 20 as Amazon India exclusive

Ahead of the expected Xiaomi Redmi 4A launch on March 20, Amazon India has teased “a new Redmi device”, confirming that the smartphone will be an Amazon exclusive. The teaser on Amazon carries the same “Time to get Smarter” tagline, which the Xiaomi invite carries for an event on Monday. Neither the invite , nor the Amazon teaser spell out the words Redmi 4A per se, but it is almost entirely confirmed that it is the Redmi 4A in question.

Launched last year in China back in November, the Redmi 4A was released along with the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime. The Redmi 4A was the cheapest of the lot, and was retailed at RMB 599, which translates to approximately Rs 6,000. And with that price tag, the high point of the device is undoubtedly the 4G VoLTE support, and the Snapdragon 425 chipset powering its guts.

Redmi 4A specification and features

Talking about what’s on and inside the Redmi 4A, wrapped in a premium looking metal body, the smartphone features a 5-inch IPS screen with 720p resolution. Further, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 , even before it was officially launched in the country, went up listed on Amazon India, revealing the price of the device. Although then, the smartphones listed on the e-commerce site was being sold by an unknown seller going by the name ‘Generic (Unbranded)’.

As for the Redmi Note 4, it features a 5.5-inch full HD display, sports a 13-megapixel PDAF rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC. The Redmi Note 4 is offered in three variants – 2GB RAM + 32GB storage priced at Rs 9,999, the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage priced at Rs 10,999, and the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage priced at Rs 12,999. Other connectivity options like hybrid dual SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, USB and Bluetooth. It draws its juice from a 4,100mAh battery.
