Xiaomi is one of the companies that doesn’t want to stop exploring. Besides launching the Mi Note 2 with dual-edge curved OLED display, Xiaomi also launched a concept phone that it has been working on. Called the Mi MIX, Xiaomi is aiming to push the boundaries and overcome challenges to come up with a smartphone that features a bezel-less display. It is the same surprise unveiling that Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had mentioned a few days back.

Designed by famous Philippe Starck, the Xiaomi Mi MIX concept smartphone features a 6.4-inch near bezel-less display with screen-to-body ratio of 91.3 percent. The smartphone ditches the metal frame, and uses ceramic instead. CEO Lei Jun also talked about the difficulties Xiaomi faced in making the smartphone a reality. Unlike other smartphones where the top has an earpiece, proximity sensor and selfie camera, the Mi MIX has a full screen on top. It uses advanced receiver-less sound transmission for delivering audio to your ears, and ultrasonic technology for proximity sensor, which is hidden below the display.

The back cover is made from full ceramic and
Xiaomi has used seamless connectors to fuse the Mi Mix’s body together without using any external adhesives. The left panel has SIM card tray, whereas the right panel has the volume rocker and power button. The fingerprint scanner is placed at the back, just below the camera module, the Xiaomi has not mentioned if it is an ultrasonic one or the usual one.

Xiaomi Mi MIX specifications

The smartphone features a 6.4-inch OLED display. Xiaomi also mentioned that despite having similar dimensions like the iPhone 7 Plus, the display on the MIX is 23 percent larger. At the heart of smartphone runs Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. There is another ‘Pro’ variant with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The Pro variant has the camera ring and the fingerprint scanner ring made from 18K gold.

In the photography department, the smartphone is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection auto-focus (PDAF), electronic image stabilization (EIS) and dual tone LED flash. For selfie lovers, there is also a front-facing camera 5-megapixel camera placed below the screen. It comes with auto orientation, allowing you to rotate the smartphone upside down while clicking photos. To make more space for other components, Xiaomi has gone for a customized camera module that eats 50 percent less space.
It comes with connectivity options such as 4G LTE, VoLTE for HD voice calling, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. With USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, 4,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0. On the software front, it runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8.
