Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphone, Mi 6, will reportedly come in three processor variants. The Xiaomi Mi 6 had been earlier speculated to come powered with Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 835 chipset. Now, based on the latest tip off by China-based @KJuma, the Mi 6 will be launched in three variants dubbed Xiaomi Mi 6S, Mi 6E, and Mi 6P, based on the type of processors they house.

While the ‘Mi 6’ label will be consistent across the variants, the following alphabet will stand for the type of chipset powering the device. The Mi 6S will thus be the one powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC while the Mi 6E will stand for MediaTek’s Helio SoC. But the ‘E’ moniker could also mean an Exynos chipset. Lastly, the Mi 6P is speculated to stand for Xiaomi’s own Pinecone SoC. So far, there have been only rumors about Xiaomi working on its own chipset similar to Huawei, which makes the Kirin SoC. However, with the purported release of the Mi 5 successor in the coming year, we might see the debut of Xiaomi-made processor.

Recently, photos of the Xiaomi Mi 6 surfaced online showing off the smartphone’s front and rear design. The images hint at a 2.5D curved display and a physical home button that is likely to double up as a fingerprint sensor. The Mi 6 could further come with a dual tone design with a metal back. Additional rumors hint at the use of metal and glass. The camera module is placed at the top left.

While reports about the use of Snapdragon 835 chipset indicate the possibility of a dual camera setup, the images do not show off such a camera module on the smartphone. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor promises higher performance with a 40 percent reduction in power consumption compared to existing chipsets. It comes with Quick Charge 4.0, which is claimed to be capable of offering up to five hours of usage or more with just five minutes of charging. The chipset further comes with features including support for 4K display which hints that the Mi 6 could boast exceptional display resolution.

In terms of software, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to run Android 7.0 Nougat or Android 7.1 Nougat update with MIUI 9 OS layered above. It is further speculated that the Mi 5 successor will boast up to 6GB of RAM. Other features are expected to include a support for USB Type-C.

It is expected that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will debut at the Mobile World Congress which kick starts on February 27 in Barcelona, Spain, with a commercial rollout sometime in April. Being a successor to the Mi 5, the Mi 6 is expected to bring in major updates over its predecessor that came with features like a 5.15-inch full HD (1080p) display, Snapdragon 820 chipset, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

It also featured a 16-megapixel rear shooter with 4K video recording capabilities and dual-tone LED flash, along with a 4-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies. It was backed by a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, a fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button. Given the newest reports about the use of three different chipsets, we can also expect there could be price variations. The Mi 5, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset at its heart, carries a price of Rs 22,999, which means the Mi 6 could likely be priced in the same category.
