Xavier Doherty, the Australia left-arm spinner, has announced his retirement from first-class and one-day cricket on Wednesday (March 15). He played four Tests for Australia and 60 One-Day Internationals in addition to representing his country in 11 Twenty20 Internationals.
Doherty's decision came after he was left out of the Tasmania squad for the final round of Sheffield Shield. "Receiving my cap for Tasmania as a young 19-year-old was pretty special and to go on to be called up for Australia in 2010 and claim that Baggy Green was a surreal feeling," he said.
Doherty made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2010 and then followed it up with a Test debut in the 2010-11 Ashes Test at the Gabba. He picked up seven wickets from his four Test while bagged 55 ODI wickets. Doherty represented Tasmania in 71 first-class games and picked up 163 wickets at an average of 42.65.
