Subramaniam Badrinath, the 36-year-old middle-order batsman, reached the impressive landmark of 10,000 first-class runs when he crunched a century (134) for Hyderabad against Chhattisgarh in Valsad on Monday (November 21). As of now, Badrinath has compiled 10,045 runs at an average of 55.19 in first-class cricket. Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary opener, is the top run-getter for India in first-class matches, with 25,834 runs against his name.

The 36-year-old made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu against Colombo Districts Cricket Association in 2000-01 and soon became the fulcrum of the state's batting line-up. In 2009, Badrinath compiled a memorable knock of 250 against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy to help Tamil Nadu gain the innings lead. Incidentally, it also turns out to be his highest individual score in his stellar first-class career.

He has been a consistent performer in first-class cricket, which can be illustrated by the fact that he has compiled more than 800 in a season on five occasions. In 2010-11, he reached great heights by composing 1226 runs at an average of 111.45.

After serving Tamil Nadu with distinction, Badrinath decided to play for Vidarbha in 2014 before Hyderabad roped him as the captain of the side for the 2016-17 season. The Hyderabad captain has also played two Tests for India. He notched a fine fifty in his debut game against South Africa in Nagpur when Dale Steyn picked up a ten-wicket haul.

During the course of his century against Chhattisgarh, Badrinath also surpassed Rashmi Parida (7,516), Pankaj Dharmani (7,621), Amarjeet Kaypee (7,623) and sh#tanshu Kotak (7,607), and now is the sixth highest run-getter in the history of Ranji Trophy.
