“We’re a non-profit that depends on donations to stay online and thriving, but 98% of our readers don’t give; they simply look the other way. If everyone who reads Wikipedia gave just a little, we could keep Wikipedia thriving for years to come. The price of a cup of coffee is all we ask.”
Jimmy Wales, Founder, Wikimedia Foundation

Instead of asking users. Why don't they start pushing ads on the platform? Their own ethics will be their own downfall. Someday they will run out of resources than they will sell to big corporation who will put ads anyway.

This is exactly what i thought after reading the notice. The amount of traffic/visits/hits they get, they will get crores of money if they monetize their site but then they don't want to do that (it's against their ethics) where as even paid subscription sites pushing ads these days!

But surely Wikipedia is a very helpful site maintained by volunteers all over the world.

Should probably just ask Bill Gates or Elon Musk to adopt Wikipedia as a charity project for knowledge tu mankind. They will get the goodwill and it will be no big deal for them.

I donated 2 days back. For the amount I use Wikipedia, 150 rupees is absolutely nothing.

Wikipedia is never in danger guys. Their parent organization mediawiki keeps getting donations, which are more than enough to run Wikipedia
