WhatsApp has rolled out a new update for its iOS app which brings voicemail feature to the popular messaging service. The feature has also been made available to Android users, who have subscribed for the beta version of the app. The new voicemail feature has been bundled as a part of version 2.16.8 (on iOS) and version 2.16.229 (on Android).
If the WhatsApp call goes unanswered or if it is rejected by the recipient, the screen will show a pop-up with three buttons. You get options to leave a ‘record voice message,’ ‘call again’ or to ‘cancel.’ To send a voice mail, you need to tap and hold down the ‘record voice message’ button and speak, just like you do it in your chats.
After you’re done recording your message, you can lift the finger from the screen to send the voice message, which will then appear on the recipient’s active WhatsApp conversation. We tried the feature on Android and it works as expected.
Besides this, WhatsApp has also been adding a lot of new features to its app. Last month, the company introduced a quote feature similar to Twitter, wherein users can reply messages with quoted text. WhatsApp has also rolled out a new FixedSys font for iOS and Android users where users need to enter back quote symbol (`) thrice before and after the text to use the new font.
The recent WhatsApp for iOS beta version also gained support for bigger emojis, public groups and Apple Music sharing feature , which could make way to the public version of the app in the coming weeks.
