Hi Guys,

I wanted to know what is the difference in the ODU equipment provided by Jio Air Fiber and Airtel Air Fiber ???

I guess ODU provided by Airtel is smaller in size as compared to Jio’s.

The question I have is that, can Jio’s ODU be installed in balcony or anywhere open outdoor areas of apartment even not in line of sight with tower ???

As Airtels ODU can be installed anywhere outdoors irrespective of LOS.

Thanks

Yes. There's a visible size difference between Airtel vs Jio AirFiber ODUs.

Looks like even Airtel uses the same ODU hardware as of Jio
Yes. Both ODUs are having Qualcomm powered chipsets as mentioned by both brands.

Another major difference is, Airtel AirFiber (FWA) works on NSA, whereas Jio AirFiber works on SA architecture. So the range/positioning of ODUs might be placed differently.

Airtel MD has mentioned recently that Airtel will also be moving to SA when demand arises and they have the infrastructure already prepared on their towers.

The question is if suppose i choose Jio AirFiber (since OFC is not available in my city), can i choose ti install the ODU in balcony, outside window, etc, as with regards ti Airtel its possible.

Only the respective service provider (Airtel/Jio) technicians can confirm whether you'll be able to install the ODU in balcony or not. Because even if I say you can and the technician denies, my words will be of no use.

But I have seen on YouTube videos that Jio AirFiber ODUs are generally installed only on roof, whereas Airtel AirFiber ODU can be installed anywhere including the balcony, window.

@Digital Mastermind Yes Jio installation team wants the ODU to be in line of sight with Tower. They Prefer Terrace mostly, which is same in my case too. If area surrounding your balcony is free (no buildings beside) and in line of sight then you can request them but mostly they deny doing that (from future perspective).

They look for nearest tower (on map) and with the directional, elevation and network data provided by app they adjust ODU direction.

All these things were not carried out by Airtel Technicians. They just installed at a preferred location. I will have to check the speeds tomorrow on desktop/Mobile.

If i can get a comparison of Jio AirFiber Speeds alongside Airtels one, it woukd be great. Have to find someone who has Jio installed, or will have to visit Jio Store and check.

This differs due to the technologies used by Jio and Airtel. The SA and NSA difference also the frequency bands they are using to provide Air fiber services.

From what I've seen, heard, experienced myself and learned is when you check 5g speeds in your mobile, you will get speeds of minimum 65% and maximum to the fullest speed of 5g mobile speed result in the Airfiber (OFC according to the airfiber plan limits).

Though one thing is noticed is you'll get good download speeds but upload speed is not that much good. Basically they're not symmetrical. I've opted for 100 Mbps plan; anytime download speeds will be of minimum 93mbps and maximum 98 mbps, Upload speeds varies between 30 mbps to 45mbps. But no downtime even once since the date of installation i.e., from 4 months. Although browsing experience is a debatable topic.
