i think there is a slight misunderstanding here between VPN and a Proxy.. what is explained above is about Proxy Servers and not VPN.. :no:no

Proxy: It just hides your geo location and IP address and hence allows you to browse sites from a different geo location and IP. The proxy server just acts as a intermediary server between your computer and ISP.. they usually provide fake IP which often identified as spam.. however one can easily negate this proxy servers using javascript/jquery and hence track your real IP, location and your online activity..

VPN: Virtual Private Networks. They encrypt all traffic that goes through it. They are legit. They provide valid IP address, but the ip address belong to the VPN server and not your computer. So, anyone (be it your ISP or even the govt) who tracks you will see the IP address of the VPN server and not yours. Since the traffic is fully encrypted with 128-bit encryption they cannot break it to find your real identity, its completely secure. Only the VPN server can track you and no other person in the world can track your activity.

A good example: All Corporate Organizations will use VPN for systems used by its employees on their premises, so their data will be encrypted and safe from any intruders. Work from home is made possible by connecting our IP to their VPN servers. We cant do that using Proxy. :no
