Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he will not be rushed in the transfer market.

The Frenchman admits it could be several weeks before he makes any significant movement.

Gunners fans have been urging Wenger to strengthen his squad this summer after seeing another promising season end without silverware last term.

A number of high-profile players have been linked with an exit from North London with Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy all tipped to depart.

Lille striker Gervinho is expected to complete a move to Emirates Stadium in the coming days, while Southampton youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is another reported target.

Despite Manchester United making a number of significant moves, Wenger feels that the transfer market is unlikely to heat up until much closer to the start of the new season.

"Currently, everyone is standing still," Wenger said.

"Everyone expects everyone else to make the first move. Everyone holds on to their cards, hoping for the major transfer.

"Nobody blinks until late July, early August. Then we will analyse the gaps in each team.

"But I am very active on the phone."
