Watson might be the Royals skipper in IPL 2014
The Australian all rounder Shane Watson might be captaining the Rajasthan Royals in the seven IPL 2014. He is one of the 5 players retained by the Royals franchise and since he is the most senior guy in the side, he has emerged as an obvious choice for captaincy. The 32 years old hard hitting batsman has captained his country Australia as well a few times.
Watson was a part of the Rajasthan Royals squad which had won the inaugural edition of the league. He had in fact become the man of the series that year and it was his performance in that tournament which had helped him to come back into the Australian national side. From there on, he kept reaching new heights of success and at the minute, he is one of the best T20 players in the world.
Till now, Rajasthan Royals has been captained by two greats of the game. In the first 4 editions, Watson’s compatriot and champion leggie Shane Warne was in charge, while, in the last couple of editions, it was the Indian batting legend Rahul Dravid who had led the side. But, with Dravid announcing his retirement last year, a new captain has to be appointed and the Royals franchise and management reckons that Watson is the man for that.
The Australian team hasn’t had too many international matches to play in April-May this year. So, Watson is supposed to play all the matches for the Royals and it may be the reason why the owners are thinking about giving him the captaincy.
