Number two telecom operator Vodafone India has introduced voucher pack ' Vodafone Sakhi ' starting from Rs 52 that allows women to make a private recharge through an OPT code without having to share the mobile number, the telco said in a statement Saturday.
The packs that are valid for 30 days are priced at Rs 52, Rs 78 and Rs 99 which also offer 50 MB of 2G/3G data. The OPT can also be used for all recharges done over a 24-hour period. An emergency calling feature enables 10 minutes of calling even with zero balance in phones. It also offers free health and beauty tips pack for the first 90 days.
A Vodafone Connected Women Report 2014 highlighted privacy issues for rural women and hesitancy to share mobile numbers at recharge outlets. With a view to address these concerns, the telco has made available ‘Vodafone Sakhi’ currently in select areas of Dehradun, Saharanpur and Firozabad in UP (W) and Uttarakhand.
“Our studies show that women in rural areas face socio-economic challenges in accessing mobile services. ‘Vodafone Sakhi’ has been designed especially to bridge the telecom needs of women in rural areas and address their barriers to access mobile services at will," Dilip Kumar Ganta, Business Head UP-West and Uttarakhand,Vodafone India said in a statement.
