Vodafone M-Pesa Tuesday said it has partnered with two power distribution firms of West Bengal– Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) and West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) - to offer cashless bill payments to consumers.

"We are offering the residents a simple, easy-to-use option to pay their electricity bills instantly. Vodafone M-Pesa offers customers a cashless, secure platform for electricity bill payments with the largest network of agents," India’s second-largest telco in a statement said.

Vodafone India has more than 16,000 outlets or CashIn points including company-owned stores, franchisees, and multi-brand outlets in West Bengal.

These points, according to the telco, provide convenience and ease to customers to convert cash into digital money facilitating digital payment of ills and e-commerce and m-commerce.

Customers can access M-Pesa on either a smartphone by downloading the M-Pesa App or by dialing a USSD short-code (*400#) from any phone including feature phone, the UK-based company said.

With this facility, customers would now have an access to multiple touch points for electricity bill payments in a simple and hassle free manner, Suresh Sethi, Business Head, M-Pesa, Vodafone India said.

For e-wallet payment WBSEDCL takes extra commission over bill & they facilitate only 2 e-wallet companies in their payment gateway.. Why ? If WBSEDCL has a willful intention of cashless payment they should remove those obstacles.

I think Our CM is not in favor of cashless economy bcoz of the demonstration against cashless move by center.

Anyway I don't see any e-wallet in payment page of electricity board site but there is an option in airtel money app but it requires manually entering all details which is very bad

Now pay tneb (tangedco) through mobikwik and paytm
