Vodafone M-Pesa now allows Bihar residents to pay electricity bills digitally

Digital wallet service Vodafone M-Pesa by India’s second largest telecom operator on Wednesday partnered with North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) and Southern Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL), to help residents of Bihar pay their electricity bills instantly.The tie up is supposed to benefit over 4.9 millions of electrified households.

The telco in a statement said that it has the largest network of agents (or CashIn Points) to facilitate digitization of money for Cash holding population. “ Vodafone has more than 12000+ outlets (or CashIn Points) including Vodafone Company owned stores, franchisees, and multi brand outlets. Customers can convert their cash into digital money using these CashIn Points.

The company also claimed that it has a pan India distribution network of over 120,000 CashIn Points and more than 8.4 million customers on board making Vodafone M-Pesa the largest banking business correspondent in the country.

“We are delighted to facilitate payments via M-Pesa ( mobile wallet ), safe, fast and convenient way of bringing bank to the mobile. With this facility, customers now have an access to multiple touch points for electricity bill payments in a simple and hassle free manner,” said Suresh Sethi, Business Head, M-Pesa, Vodafone India.

“From process automation to instant and secure transaction, we are confident M-Pesa will bring transformational benefits to the people in Bihar and further drive financial inclusion in the state,” he added.

Vodafone India had previously welcomed the government’s move of demonetisation which it considers is a move towards cashless economy.
