The debut of Reliance Jio has evidently ruffled feathers of many existing telecom operators. After a series of promotional offers and cheaper data packs, Vodafone has quietly added free data quota to existing and new Vodafone Red customers for lifetime. The data offer doubles the data quota for all Red individual plans on a monthly basis. The company is further offering its Vodafone Play subscription for free to all Red plans for a limited time.

Vodafone Red is the company’s bundle of postpaid subscription plans aimed at offering unlimited calling, free data quotas and inbuilt roaming for individual as well as group users. Currently, the plans start at Rs 499 with 1GB 4G data and go up to Rs 1,999 that gives 8GB 4G data. As a token of gratitude for being a Vodafone customer, the company sent out notifications to its Vodafone Red users that their existing data quota was being automatically pumped up to double the existing value. Vodafone Play is a dedicated app offering services like streaming of television content, latest movies and music. The app further comes with capabilities like plug and play of OTT apps and live streaming. With the new double data offer, Vodafone is also offering the subscription to these services for free with all Red plans, but for a limited time period.

Existing Vodafone Red subscribers received the update through an SMS notification reading, “Thank you for making Vodafone a 200 Million strong family! As a token of our gratitude we have added 7 GB FREE to your Red 1599_Individual plan, taking your internet quota from 5 GB to 12 GB per month. Happy surfing!” In one of its tweets, Vodafone has also mentioned that new subscribers will be able to enjoy the double data offer when they opt for any of the Red plans.

In light of the recent commercial launch and apparent popularity of Reliance Jio 4G services, existing network providers have been scrambling for attention by revamping their network quality and services. Reliance Jio set the cat among the pigeons by offering internet packs of higher data quota at minimal costs to the customers. The cheapest Jio 4G plans start from Rs 149 per month, which offers unlimited free voice calls, 300MB of data, unlimited access to Jio apps, and 100 SMS per day. The most expensive among the host of plans is priced at Rs 4,999, offering 75GB of data per month.

When BGR India reached out to Vodafone for further details, the company responded that the double data offer is applicable to all Red customers across circles. Both new and existing Vodafone Red customers will be able to enjoy double the data for lifetime. For example, if an existing Red user gets 3GB data quota for a month in the Rs 999 plan then starting this month, the user will get an additional 3GB of data per month for lifetime.

Recently, Vodafone announced a new SuperNet 4G data plan for existing and new, prepaid and postpaid customers. Under the new plan, 10 GB of 4G data is being offered at the price of 1GB. Valid till December 31, the offer is available in all telecom circles where Vodafone offers its 3G/4G services. However, like other seemingly economical scheme this one too came with pre-conditions like restricted usage of additional data and availability in select circles. Users in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai can avail 9GB 4G data to use only on 4G network. While in other circles, such as Uttar Pradesh (east and west), Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Maharashtra and Goa (excluding Mumbai), Assam, North East states and Rajasthan, users can avail 9GB of 3G data on data pack of above 1 GB. The additional data is also only available from midnight to 6AM.
