After hiking tariff for its Delhi post-paid customers, Vodafone on Tuesday raised prices of local and STD calls in the Mumbai region by 20% as the telecom sector battles low margins, profitability and several regulatory issues.
Vodafone has increased call rates to 1.2 paise per second from one paisa for its postpaid customers, effective from May 1. But customers on promotional offers will not be impacted by this hike. Vodafone has around 6 million subscribers in the Mumbai circle.
Last year, cellular operators raised tariffs for their prepaid customers by 20% for the first time since they slashed rates in 2008. Customers in the Mumbai region confirmed receiving a text informing them about the tariff increase.
