Uber India begins rolling out option to schedule ride, here’s how it works
Uber has started rolling out its ‘schedule a ride’ feature for users in India. The scheduled ride option allows a rider to book an Uber cab 15 minutes to 30 days in advance.

[font=apres-regular-webfont, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif][size=large]Uber has finally released its new ‘Schedule ride’ feature in India, which as the name suggests, lets users schedule rides in advance, unlike how up till now a user could book a cab right before they needed a ride. The update is being rolled out in phases, while some users may have already received the update, others who have Uber app installed on their smartphones, will receive the update by the end of the day. The schedule ride feature was first rolled out for Uber users in Seattle in June this year. Uber’s Indian competitor Ola for the longest time has been offering the feature to schedule rides in advance through its ‘Ride Later’ feature.
The scheduled ride option allows a rider to pre-book an Uber cab 15 minutes to 30 days in advance. When booked, the traveler will be sent a booking reminder once 24 hours before the booking and another final reminder 30 minutes before the cab arrives. With the scheduling option, users can be sure that be it midnight or traffic rush hour, the advance booking will get them a cab at the time and date they need it. Here’s a step by step guide on how to schedule a ride with Uber.

When iOS users must have opened their Uber apps today they would have been automatically prompted with the new feature. The scheduling option is actually quite convenient, and it is pretty easy to book. The face of the app looks exactly like it did before the update, just that now you will see a little option right above the section where you have the option to choose the kind of Uber ride you want. The option reads “Schedule A Ride” and has a clock icon before it.
To schedule a ride, tap on the option and you will then need to fill a form with standard information to book a ride, like the pickup location and destination. However with the scheduling, you would also need to list the time and date of pickup. You can choose a time slot from options that run through all day with fifteen minute gaps. Also, you get the option to choose from UberGo and UberX to schedule a ride.

When you feed in your pickup location and destination, and the kind of ride you want, the app also shows you a fare estimate. However, right below that it also gives a disclaimer that the fare would vary in case of traffic or a surge. More importantly, Uber says that they do not guarantee that the booked ride request will be accepted by the Uber driver. BGR India reached out to Uber about this particular disclaimer to understand how the scheduled booking works at their end and if this ‘no guarantee’ note means that the booking will be uncertain.

Uber clarified saying that what is a scheduled ride for us works like a regular booking for an Uber driver. So, if you book a cab for a particular day and time, depending on the frequency of cabs around your area close to the scheduled time of pickup, Uber sends a pickup duty to a driver, ensure that a rider gets their cab at the time they asked for.

Other than that, Uber lets you cancel scheduled rides, unless they are done just moments before the scheduled arrival of the cab. To cancel cab, just tap on the edit icon next to your schedule ride, that will lead you to the cancellation process. Also, if you have scheduled multiple trips, you can see a log of it by tapping on the settings icon on the top left of the screen. The Trips option now shows a log of ‘Upcoming’ rides, along with the record of the past trips that you have taken with Uber.
