Twitter begins testing in-line video playback
One click access to videos on Twitter
Twitter has begun testing in-line video playback online as well as for its mobile apps. It allows users to preview or play video clips without the need to leave a tweet. According to The New York Times, the micro-blogging site began rolling out the new feature on Wednesday.
Twitter has confirmed to PCMag that a new video experience is on its way. The report says that users can watch the video previews on the right side of the home timeline. The video can be watched with a single tap. The social network is starting the test with its Amplify partners that include NBA, which shared highlights from this week’s Kicks vs Pacers and Lakers vs Spurs games in a series of short videos. These videos were about six to nine minutes.
With this new feature, Twitter users will now be able to view videos on the same page and won’t have to go through the hassle of multiple clicks, which gets annoying on mobile devices. The initiative is also said to be a part of its birthday celebrations, as Twitter turned 8 earlier this week.
The micro-blogging site also celebrated its birthday by allowing users to find out what their first ever tweet was. Users need to simply visit first-tweets.com and enter their Twitter username and the site will instantly pull up either the amazingly witty or deadly dull first tweet that you posted. The interesting part is, the site doesn’t limit you to your own tweet and you can pull out first tweets posted by others too.
