TSMC exclusivity may stay for Apple’s A11 processor. Back in February there were reports indicating that the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has become the sole manufacturer of the Apple A10 processor that run on the company’s upcoming iPhone models. Now, a new report says that Apple’s 2018 iPhone models will be running next generation A11 processors, which will also be exclusively manufactured by TSMC.

Some earlier reports had said that TSMC will be producing the majority share of A11 processors. For the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. It is worth pointing out here that the A9 chipset manufacturing has been divided between Samsung and TSMC. According to a Digitimes report, TSMC will be manufacturing the A11 processor using the 10nm FinFET process.

In May, it was reported that TSMC has finalized the design of the A11 processor that will be used in 2017′s iPhone model. Since last few years there have been speculations that Apple is trying to bring down its dependence on Samsung for the chips that power its devices. Some reports also suggest that Apple wants to completely move away from Samsung. Another reason, according to some analysts can be that the company found the TSMC’s 10nm processes of manufacturing chipsets more efficient. Next year, Apple will be celebrating tenth anniversary of iPhone launch.

The Cupertino-based technology giant is expected to launch iPhone sporting an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) edgeless display. There are also rumors that the home button/ fingerprint sensor will not exist as a physical portion of the iphone’s design, but will be integrated within the expanse of the display itself. Meanwhile, those purchasing the iPhone 7 this year may receive only a slight hardware upgrade as Apple is said to be keeping the best for its tenth anniversary edition.
