Vaio is back with two hybrid devices - Vaio Z and Vaio Z Canvas - which can be turned into tablets.

The Vaio Z is the company's new flagship and features a 13.3-inch screen, SSD, fifth-gen Core i7 processor, and an aluminium carbon shell body. The ultrabook features a 'multiflip' mode that lets you switch between a tablet slate and a laptop.

According to the company, its battery can last for 15.5 hours and its special power-saving display mode can cut down on the power consumption by 40 per cent as compared to typical LCD.

Priced at around $1,600, the Vaio Z is up for pre-order in Japan.

The Vaio Z Canvas, on the other hand, features a detachable keyboard and comes with a digitiser stylus for its 12.1-inch display screen. It is slated to be released in May. Other features include an i7 processor, a 256GB SSD, and 16GB of onboard memory.

The two new Vaio devices are the first devices to be released under the new ownership. It's been over a year since Sony sold its loss-making Vaio personal computer division to investment fund Japan Industrial Partners.
