No intention of quitting captaincy:
Angelo Mathews
Angelo Mathews has stated that he
won't step down as Sri Lanka's captain
despite the visitors hurtling towards a
122-run defeat to a resurgent England
side in Cardiff on Saturday (July 2). The
hosts won the five-match One-Day
International (ODI) series 3-0, with one
tie and one no result, following their
2-0 success in the three-Test
campaign.
The only saving grace for the tourists
on their tour of United Kingdom so far
has been pipping Ireland in a couple of
ODIs. Sri Lanka have one last chance
to overcome the home team when
they face England in a lone Twenty20
International (T20I) in Southampton
on Tuesday (July 5).
"There will be good times as well as
bad," Mathews said after conceding
the ODI series 3-0. --- Read more: http://m.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/80995
Ramith Rambukwella replaces Upul Tharanga in Sri Lanka T20 squad
Ramith Rambukwella, the Sri Lankan all-rounder, has been included in the Twenty20 squad for the one-off T20I against England, the team management confirmed on Monday (July 4). Rambukwella has replaced Upul Tharanga, with the rest of the One-Day International squad remaining the same for the clash in Southampton.
Milinda Siriwardana, who was part of Sri Lanka's World T20 squad earlier this year, was not considered after getting the axe from the ODI squad last month.
The 24-year-old Rambukwella has played only a solitary T20I against New Zealand in 2013 in which he took 1 for 19 off his four overs. He was a part of the Sri Lanka A team, which is currently in the United Kingdom.
Despite having moderate returns in the provincial T20 tournament, he hit 141 runs and took seven wickets in the eight games he played in Sri Lanka cricket's club-based T20 tournament this year. He has a strike rate of 154 in his 40-match T20 career despite averaging just 18, and has picked up 36 wickets at an economy of just 6.71.
