RE: Sri Lanka tour of England, 2016 (3rd Test - Day 3)
Anderson reprimanded for breaching ICC code
James Anderson, the England fast bowler, has been officially reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the ongoing third Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s, the International Cricket Council said on Sunday (June 12).
Anderson, who has fallen foul of the law a fair few times in the past, was found to have violated Level 1 Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct relating to ‘conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game’.
The incident, the ICC said, had taken place on Saturday’s third day during Sri Lanka’s first innings, when Anderson showed disrespect to S Ravi after the umpire had reminded the fast bowler not to verbally engage with Rangana Herath, the Sri Lankan batsman.
The charge had been laid by Ravi and Rod Tucker, the on-field umpires, as well as Aleem Dar, the television umpire, and Michael Gough, the fourth umpire.
Anderson admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft, the match referee, which ruled out the need for a formal hearing, an ICC release added.
All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of a warning/reprimand and/or the imposition of a fine of up to 50% of the applicable match fee.
