Tillakaratne Dilshan will continue to captain Sri Lanka in all forms of cricket until the end of the year, the country's cricket board have stated.
The opening batsman took over the job on a series-by-series basis from Kumar Sangakkara following April's World Cup final.
Defeat in England - in both Tests and one-day internationals - followed, but the Sri Lankans are holding their own during the on-going series with Australia.
Results, then, have been mixed for Dilshan but the Sri Lankan cricket board have decided to keep him on - for now at least.
Dilshan oversaw two Twenty20 victories and his side are currently 2-1 behind in a five-match ODI schedule with the finishing games being played in Colombo on Saturday and Monday.
Three Test matches follow before Sri Lanka go to South Africa for a tour beginning in December.
Dilshan will turn 35 in October and his dashing batting at the top of the order has been his trademark, starting in only his second Test match when he hit an unbeaten 163 against Zimbabwe back in 1999.
He has gone on to make 4,243 runs in 68 Tests at 43.74 with 12 centuries, while in the one-day game he has hit 5,587 in 212 matches with 10 hundreds.
