Elon Musk-led Starlink’s broadband to cost Rs 1.58 lakh per terminal in year 1

If you are planning to subscribe to Elon Musk-led Starlink’s broadband-from-space service then get ready to loosen your purse strings as it is estimated to cost you around Rs 1.58 lakh (including local taxes/levies) in India per user terminal in the first year, and around Rs 1.15 lakh from the second year onwards, the Economic Times mentioned in a report citing the company’s India head Sanjay Bhargava.

The reason provided by Starlink in the email is that the timeline for receiving licences to operate in India is “currently unknown” and that there are “several issues” that must be resolved within the licensing framework to allow the company to operate Starlink in India.

SpaceX’s Starlink internet has included unlimited bandwidth since launch, and while the service will technically continue to provide that to customers, users who exceed 1TB of data use in a single month will now be throttled once they reach that threshold.

Starlink has introduced FUP.

Elon Musk is eager to bring his Starlink satellite broadband to India, but the world's richest man faces strong resistance from Mukesh Ambani, Asia's wealthiest, who runs Indian telecom giant Reliance Jio.

They will be competing against BSNL not Jio. Satellite internet is requirement of rural areas. At urban areas you got local companies who are giving competition to likes of Jio and Airtel.
