Starlink receives India's final regulatory nod for launch
India's space regulator INSPACe has granted a licence to Elon Musk-run Starlink to offer space-based internet services in the country.

The telecom regulator, TRAI, has suggested that companies providing satellite internet services, like Starlink, should pay 4 percent of their earnings as fees to the government. This proposed fee is higher than what the companies had been hoping for.

The next step is for the Indian government to create guidelines on how satellite frequencies will be assigned and what fees will apply.

The authorisation is till July 7, 2030, as per information available on the IN-SPACe website.

As part of the approval, IN-SPACe has also cleared specific frequency bands for use: For gateway beams, Starlink is authorised to operate in the uplink bands of 27.5–29.1 GHz and 29.5–30 GHz, and downlink bands of 17.8–18.6 GHz and 18.8–19.3 GHz, using both right-hand and left-hand circular polarisation. For user beams, the approved bands include 14.0–14.5 GHz uplink (LHCP) and 10.7–12.7 GHz downlink (RHCP).
