Statistical highlights for the first two days of the WACA Test:

1 - Keshav Maharaj is the first spinner to make his debut at the WACA. His figures of 3/56 is the best for a South African spinner making his debut against Australia.

32 runs for which South Africa lost their first four wickets. It is the fewest for a team after opting to bat in the first morning of a Test at the WACA. The previous lowest was 49 by the home team against West Indies in 1997 .

84 by Quinton de Kock is the third highest for a South African batsman in his maiden innings in Australia, after 114 by Eddie Barlow in Brisbane in 1963 and 87 by Neil McKenzie in Adelaide in 2001.

158-run opening stand between David Warner and Shaun Marsh is the first 100-plus opening partnership for Australia against South Africa at home since 219 by Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer at the SCG in 2002. However, they have had five 100-run stands in the matches played in South Africa.

0 - Previous instance of Warner getting out in the nineties in Test cricket before today. He had scored 16 hundreds in all. The only player to score more centuries before a dismissal in the nineties was Justin Langer, who scored 21 hundreds before getting dismissed for 97 against Pakistan at the WACA in 2004.

5 - Number of hundreds in the last five innings for Warner in the first Test of a home season before getting dismissed for 97 today. He scored 124 against England in the second innings at the Gabba in 2013, followed it up with 145 and 102 against India in Adelaide in 2014 and scored 163 and 116 against New Zealand in Brisbane last year.

4 - Batsmen dismissed for a duck in Australia's innings, first time in a home game after 17 years. The last time it happened was also at the WACA, against Pakistan in 1999 . In fact, three of the last four such instances for Australia at home have come at the WACA.

3 - Lower first-innings leads for a team than Australia's two runs in the matches hosted by Australia. The hosts had a one run lead against England at the SCG in 2003 ,while England were ahead by a run against Australia at the SCG and the MCG in 1883 and 1974 respectively.

402 - Runs scored by Adam Voges between his last two dismissals in home Tests. He had scores of 269* and 106* against West Indies last summer.

86 - Runs scored by Australia for which they lost their 10 wickets - they collapsed from 158 without loss to 244 all out. There have been only seven instances of a team losing as many wickets for fewer runs after a century partnership for the first wicket.

4 for 56 by Vernon Philander is his best figures in Tests in Australia. The last time he took four or more wickets in a Test away from home was in August 2012 against England at Lord's (5 for 30).

1 - Run scored by Hashim Amla in this Test is his joint lowest in a match. He scored one run each against England in 2004 and India in 2006, both in Durban. The last time he scored less than ten runs in a Test where he batted twice was against West Indies in Port of Spain in June 2010.
