Sony was among the first brands to guarantee Android 7.0 Nougat update to its Xperia X users. Back in September the company had announced a list of its devices that will be getting the Android Nougat update. While the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ received the update last month, Sony has now announced rolling out Android Nougat update for the Xperia X and X Compact smartphones.
Sony is rolling out the update in phased manner, and it might hit users in some regions before others. While users will get a notification for the update, they can also manually check the availability of the update by heading over to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update. It is worth pointing out that Xperia Blog had already reported about it, and claimed the firmware update is available for the Xperia X (F5121), Xperia X Dual (F5122) and Xperia X Compact (F5321) handsets. The new update moves the build number to version 34.2.A.0.266.

Besides the Xperia X phones, some of the Sony devices that are scheduled to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update are the Xperia Z4 tablet, Zperia Z3+, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact. The Xperia Z3,, which was the first non-Nexus smartphones to get the Android N Developer Preview, isn’t included in the list.
As we know the Android Nougat update brings a variety of new features for its Android users. It comes with a multi-window support, which allows users to use two apps at the same time and double tap to switch between them. The update also helps users save battery and consume less memory when screen is turned off which further helps saving battery life. The update also fixes bugs and also brings performance improvements as compared with Android Marshmallow. Google has also revamped the notifications bar with inline reply feature, which will let you reply to text messages without having to open the app. Google has also included a Daydream VR mode in Android Nougat.
Besides Sony, other brands have also sarted to roll out the update to their users. Recently, Motorola announced releasing updates to Moto G4 Plus, Moto Z and Moto Z Force smartphones while HTC has rolled out the update to its HTC 10 and One M9 smartphones. Along with this Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has also announced that its devices – Mi 4c , Mi 4s , Mi Note and Mi Max will be the first smartphones in their product line-up to receive the Android Nougat update in the coming weeks.
