Last month Sony revealed which of its smartphones will be updated to the latest Android version, v7.0 Nougat. The list include top-end Xperia smartphones like the Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia X Performance, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, and Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact. The company had then not revealed a timeline for the rollout, but did say it was “working hard to bring this major update” to as many of its devices as possible, and as quickly it could. Almost a month after the announcement, Sony in a presentation at a conference held by Sony Slovakia revealed the timeline for Android Nougat rollout for the Xperia smartphones.

According to Sony’s slide shared on Xperiablog , the Xperia X Performance and XZ be the first ones to receive Google’s latest Android version 7.0 update, and the rollout will begin sometime next month. The next lot of devices that would get Nougat update are the Xperia X and X Compact, and the update will come around November. All the Xperia Z5 series lineup (Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact), Xperia Z3+ and Z4 tablet) will get the update in the third cycle, which will be arriving in December. The next and final round of update will be available for the Xperia XA and Xperia Ultra smartphones early next year.

If rolled out, the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ will be among the first non-Nexus/Android One devices to get the Android Nougat update. LG’s V20 is the first smartphone to run Android 7.0 out-of-the-box. The update, though, has been rolled out to Google’s Nexus and Android One line up. Besides Sony and LG, Samsung has announced Android 7.0 update for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 variants. HTC has also confirmed it will be rolling out the update to its HTC 10, One A9 and One M9 smartphones.

Google had released the final version of
Android 7.0 Nougat last month. Currently, the Android iteration hasn’t been listed on Google’s Android distribution dashboard as of September 5. The adoption is likely to increase with more handset makers rolling out the update and new devices coming with the latest software out-of-the-box in coming months. Looking at the slower adoption rate of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Nougat is unlikely to dominate the distribution charts anytime sooner.

Android 7.0 Nougat is a major upgrade over the previous versions of Android. It brings a lot of new features and improvements. The update brings support for multi-window feature, allowing you to run two apps side by side. Google has also revamped the notifications pane, which will let you reply to text messages without having to open the app. The feature also includes support for third-party apps. There is also a new data saver mode that allows you to restrict background data consumption of background apps.

Google has also made improvements to doze mode to get more juice from the battery. In Marshmallow, doze mode used to suspend background apps when the smartphone was left untouched for some time. Now, with Nougat, the feature will also work when the screen is turned off. Google has also included a dedicated Daydream VR mode in Android Nougat, but older devices are unlikely to include the feature

Currently only news for Samsung 7.0 Nougat update is for Galaxy S7/S7 Edge.. Note 7 would have been in the list as well if the tragedy didn't happened with Samsung...

Other devices will get at a later point of time..
