Sony has expanded its RX series of cameras in India with the new Cyber-shot RX10 aimed at DSLR enthusiasts. The camera is priced at Rs 84,990 and will be available in India from the end of this year.

The RX10 features a fixed Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-200mm (35mm equivalent) F2.8 lens, which Sony claims is versatile enough to deliver the same performance as your collection of interchangeable lenses. The lens’s ability to focus at distances as short as 3cm make it a great choice for those dabbling with Macro photography.

The wide aperture, Sony claims, allows users to shoot in low light without increasing ISO settings. Bokeh effect is one of the selling points of the RX10 thanks to the 7-blade iris diaphragm. Optical SteadyShot eliminates shakes and allows better video recording. Speaking of, the RX10 is capable of shooting 1080p videos at selectable 50p (AVCHD progressive) or cinematic 25p frame rates. Even while shooting videos, the RX10 has full control over P/A/S/M exposure modes. An audio level meter and adjustable levels ensure that movies sound as good as they look. There's a microphone jack and headphone output for accurate level monitoring.

A new BIONZ X processing engine, Sony says, offers approximately 3x improvement in processing speed compared to previous BIONZ processors. As featured on the acclaimed DSC-RX100 II (see review), the 20.2 effective megapixels (approximate) 1.0-type back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor is around four times bigger than your standard compact camera's imager. Thanks to the new Direct Drive SSM mechanism that works in conjunction with the Exmor R CMOS sensor and powerful BIONZ X processor, auto focus is said to be super speedy.

On the back is a high resolution 1440k dot, high-contrast OLED Tru-Finder LCD which can tilt up and down for better flexibility. Despite its lightweight build, a rigid magnesium alloy body features dust- and moisture-resistant as well as seals for extra durability. On-board Wi-Fi allows easy one-touch connection with an NFC-compatible Android smartphone or tablet or to iOS devices via Wi-Fi.

There's a range of compatible accessories for the RX10. The LCJ-RXE is a premium jacket case that protects the camera from dust and knocks. Then there’s an ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone for better sound capturing while shooting video. In terms of lighting solutions, there’s the powerful HVL-F43M flash or battery-powered HVL-LEIR1 Video IR light.
