Today, Microsoft announced the near availability of a new version of Skype for Windows computers, namely 5.10.0.116, aimed at providing a series of fixes for known issues that affect the application.

The most important of them results in messages sent for one contact to be mistakenly delivered to another person in user’s contact list.

According to Microsoft, this issue affects only a small number of users, and it appears only at times when Skype crashes during an IM session.

For that, the company is pushing out a hotfix that should resolve the problem. New versions of Skype for Mac, Linux, and Windows Phone are also planned.

“Skype client crashes during a Skype IM session, which may in some cases result in the last IM entered or sent prior to the crash being delivered to a different IM contact after the Skype client is rebooted or logged in as a new user,” the release notes for the fix read.

“Although we cannot determine precisely how many users may have been affected by this error, we believe the number is small given the very specific circumstances under which the error occurs,” a post on Skype’s blog reads.

One thing that is encouraging, however, is the fact that users of Skype 2.8 for Android, Skype 4.0 for iOS and Skype 5.9 for Windows were not affected.

Skype 5.10.0.116 for Windows will also bring along a fix related to file sharing. Previously, “it was not possible to save files sent on Hard Disk Drive formatted to FAT32 format,” the release notes explain.

Apparently, these issues were found to affect Skype 5.8 for Mac and Skype 4.0 for Linux too. Only the aforementioned privacy issue was affecting Skype 1.2 for Windows Phone.

The hotfix is expected to roll out to affected systems in the next few days. However, users can already download the updated version of the Windows application. The ad-free version of the app (5.10.32.116) is available on Softpedia via this link.
