The Shiv Sena on Saturday urged Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to extend the deadline for using the demonetised notes for utility payments and exchange till December 30.

"The party has req the @FinMinIndia to extend the deadline of use of demonitised notes for utility payments and exchange till 30th December (sic)," Yuva Sena president Aaditya Thackeray tweeted.

On Saturday, tapping the popular mood amid reports of inconvenience to the people after the Centre demonetised high-value currency notes, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had described the move as "torture for people" even as he dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct a "surgical strike" on the Swiss banks to bring back black money.

The prime minister had, on November 8, announced his government's decision to demonetise Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes.

Long queues were seen outside banks even today as the people jostled to exchange the demonetised currency notes across the country.

They had also queued up before ATMs to procure Rs 100 and new currency notes even as some of the machines went dry soon after they were stocked up due to the huge rush.
