New Delhi, Sep 1: Security has been tightened across Maharashtra by cops as the state is geared to celebrate 10 day Ganesh festival.

Atleast 1000 policemen have been spread outside Ganesh pandals on shifts to ensure that the celebrations go of with an interruption.

The Pune police acting on the orders of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Intelligence Bureau have made security arrangements for the season.

"After getting intelligence inputs, the police held a special meeting with Dagdusheth Ganapati Halwai Trust members on security measures. The police also held meetings with prominent members of Muslim community in the backdrop of Eid as well as with Ganesh Mandals and politicians," said Meeran Borwankar, police commissioner.

"At least 10,000 policemen, eight Quick Response Teams, 12 platoons (around 1200 personnel) of the State Reserve Police Force, six Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, 500 Home Guards and 200 civil defence employees have been deployed in the city," said Borwankar.

"People are being advised through posters, bulk SMSes and pamphlets not to touch any suspicious object," she added seeking cooperation.
