Storage manufacturers Seagate and LaCie have made some announcements ahead of CES 2015. Seagate has launched three new hard drives namely - Wireless Mobile Storage, Seagate Seven, and Seagate Personal Cloud, while LaCie has launched its Mirror and Rugged RAID hard drives.

Out of three hard drives launched, the Seagate Seven is touted as the "world's slimmest" portable hard drive with a thickness of just 7mm. Meanwhile, LaCie's Mirror hard drive has been designed by Pauline Deltour, a reputed industrial designer based out of Paris.


The Seagate Seven offers 500GB of storage and includes a USB 3.0 port. It is lightweight at just 150 grams.

The Seagate Seven Portable Drive will be available this month at $100 (Rs. 6,338 approximately), while the Seagate Wireless Mobile Storage hard drive will be available starting February and has been priced at $130 (Rs. 8,232 approximately), and Seagate Personal Cloud Home Media Storage is expected to start shipping be end of this month; though no pricing for the hard drive has been revealed by the company.

The Seagate Wireless Mobile Storage hard drive will be available in Blue, Green, Grey, Red, and White colours. It offers 500GB of storage space and features a USB 2.0 port. It measures 125.36x125.36x24.5mm and weighs 281 grams. The highlight of the Wireless Mobile Storage is it supports Wi-Fi connectivity and can connect to iOS and Mac devices for media playback. It can connect up to 3 mobile devices at once and offers up to 6 hours of battery life.

Seagate Personal Cloud Home Media Storage, shaped like a box, will be available in 3TB, 4TB, and 5TB storage capacities, while will be also available in 2-Bay version (4TB, 6TB, and 8TB).


LaCie, on the other hand, has launched the LaCie Mirror priced at $280 (Rs. 17,749 approximately) and LaCie Rugged RAID will be available at $449 (Rs. 28,432 approximately) hard drives. The LaCie Mirror is will start shipping this month while the Rugged RAID is expected to be available in first quarter.

LaCie's Mirror comes encased with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and will be available with Ebony wood display stand. It offers 1TB of storage and includes USB 3.0 port. Commenting on the design of LaCie Mirror, Pauline Deltour, Industrial Designer, Paris said, "You have to look twice to discover the LaCie Mirror's true ambition. Covered by mirrored glass, it's first an elegant and functional object, and only on second glance is it revealed to be a slim and high-performance hard drive."

LaCie Rugged RAID hard drive comes in an orange anti-shock rubber casing and is IP 54-rated for resistance to dust and water splashing. It offers 4TB storage space and includes a USB 3.0 port.
