In an effort to stabilize its dwindling profits, Samsung is believed to be planning a major restructuring in management. The company has already promised to fundamentally reform its smartphones portfolio, and lose some of the Galaxy smartphones lineup. As part of the ongoing change, the company could also shut its messenger service ChatOn in certain markets, says a Korean publication citing Samsung officials. The ChatOn service comes pre-installed on several Galaxy smartphones. It is currently being used in over 120 countries. The officials didn’t list the countries where the service will be pulled, but noted that there are many regions where ChatOn service has been getting positive response. It is likely that the company will keep the service alive in regions where it is turning profits.
According to the Korean Times, which is citing a Samsung official, the company doesn’t find ChatOn as a business that can ever show improvement. “From a business point of view, ChatOn isn’t a business that can show improvement in the future”, he said. This hints that the future of ChatOn isn’t as bright and the service might see its demise eventually.
