Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo update development has started

The firmware version for the Android 8.0 update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ could be G955FXXU1BQI1 and G950FXXU1BQI1, respectively.

There’s a fair chance that Samsung could start a beta testing program for early adopters like it did for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Once the beta update gets tested thoroughly, the update could be rolled out worldwide much faster than last year as the company has started using multi-CSC firmwares.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Oreo beta program

Samsung started working on the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ last month. We reported recently that there’s a possibility that Samsung might launch the Galaxy S8 Oreo beta program soon. Another report claimed that the beta program will be launched in the United States on October 31.

A new report brings us the names of the countries where Samsung is going to launch the Galaxy S8 Oreo beta program. It doesn’t reveal precisely when the beta will go live there, only that those select countries will get it.

The report claims that Samsung is going to launch the Galaxy S8 Oreo beta program in the United Kingdom, North America and South Korea in the first phase. The second phase will see the beta being launched in China, Germany, Spain, France, Poland and India. It’s unclear how long the wait will be between the first and second phase.

Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 owners in these markets will be able to join the beta through the Samsung Members app. The app is available from Galaxy Apps and the Google Play Store. They have to register for the Galaxy Beta Program from the Samsung Members app.

Leaked Galaxy S8+ Android 8.0 Oreo build adds Dolby Atmos support

The Android 8.0 Oreo beta program for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ is going to end on January 15. This lines up nicely with reports that the Oreo update is going to be released for these handsets by the end of this month.

Amid reports that at least one Galaxy Note 8 unit has accidentally received the Oreo update, an Android 8.0 build for Galaxy S8+ has been leaked online which adds Dolby Atmos support to the handset.
