Samsung announced the ‘A series’ smartphone back in 2015, which consisted of the Galaxy A3 (2016), Galaxy A5 (2016) and Galaxy A7 (2016). The three smartphones came with a metal frame and glass back, similar to last year’s Galaxy S6 smartphones. Now, it is being reported that the next-generation Galaxy A series of smartphones are under development, and the Galaxy A5 (2017) has been spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench. Interestingly, a smartphone with the same model number has also been spotted on Indian import-export site Zauba.
The Galaxy A5 (2017) has been spotted on Geekbench by Sammobile revealing that the smartphone might be powered by an Exynos 7880 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone will run Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out-of-the-box. The Exynos 7880 is an octa-core processor with four 1.87GHz Cortex-A72 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.3GHz, paired with Mali-T860MP4 GPU. Rest of the details are not clear at the moment. From what reports say, the Galaxy A5 (2017) will come with slightly upgraded specifications as compared to that of 2016 variant of the Galaxy A5.
Speaking of which, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) came with a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display and was powered by an octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. It also featured a 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS, a front-facing 5-megapixel camera, 2,900mAh battery and connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G, GPS and NFC.
In addition to the Galaxy A5, Samsung is also believed to be working on the next-generation Galaxy A3 (2017) and the Galaxy A7 (2017) smartphones. The company however had only launched the Galaxy A5 and A7 in India, priced at Rs 29,400 and Rs 33,400 respectively. The upcoming smartphones could also be launched in India with a similar price tag.
In the meanwhile, Samsung recently launched the Tizen-based Z2 smartphone in India earlier this month. The Samsung Z2 is priced at Rs 4,590 and comes with features like a 4-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) display, 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage, and a microSD card. The smartphone also comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, VGA camera, 1,500mAh battery and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB OTG support.
