Samsung debuted its Galaxy A series smartphones back in 2014. The Samsung Galaxy A series smartphones stand out for its looks and glass-metal combination. Samsung is now coming up with 2017 version of the Galaxy A5. Samsung had launched the first edition of the Galaxy A5 smartphone in India back in January 2015 with a price tag of Rs 25,500. Last year in February, it launched the Galaxy A5 (2016) for Rs 29,400. The third version of the Galaxy A5 is now speculated to launch later this year or early next year. Ahead of an official announcement, new details about the smartphone have emerged after it received Wi-Fi certification from the WiFi Alliance (WFA).
According to the listing, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) will support Wi-Fi 802.11h connectivity. Along with it, the Wi-Fi certification also revealed that the smartphone will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. GSMArena reports that there will be two variants of the smartphone, one to come with single-SIM support and the other with dual-SIM support. The previous listings of the smartphone reveal that it bears the model number SM-A520F but the Wi-Fi certification shows SM-A520F/DS, which is most likely for the dual SIM variant. Prior to the Wi-Fi certification, the Galaxy A5 (2017) was earlier spotted on Geekbench benchmarking website and Zauba import-export tracking site.

What can be confirmed from the Geekbench listing and the Wi-Fi certification is the OS, Android Marshmallow 6.0. Other than that, according to the Geekbench listing, the smartphone will be powered by an octa-core Exynos 7880 processor clocked at 1.87GHz. The listing also reveals that the smartphone will come with 3GB of RAM. As mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) has been spotted on import listings as well and it has been shipped to India for testing. More leaks suggest that the Galaxy A5 (2017) could feature a 5.2-inch display and also sport a 13-megapixel rear camera. The smartphone is also rumored to be powered by a 3,000mAh battery. Other than that, there has been no other information about the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017).

If we take into consideration the leaks and rumors about the smartphone and compare it with its predecessor, we can expect some improvements. Firstly, the RAM would get a good upgrade from the existing 2GB in the
Galaxy A5 (2016) to 3GB in its upcoming successor. Another major and expected improvement is on the software front, which is Android Marshmallow 6.0 from the existing Android Lollipop 5.1.1. The Galaxy A5 (2017) is also expected to feature TouchWiz UI as in its predecessor. The processor also has an upgrade from the existing Exynos 7580 octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz to the expected Exynos 7880 octa-core processor clocked at 1.87GHz. The 2,900mAh battery in the 2016 version of the Galaxy A5 would also get an upgrade to 3,000mAh if the rumors are to be believed. Other than that, the 5.2-inch display size and the 13-megapixel rear camera remain the same as in the 2016 and the 2017 versions of the Samsung Galaxy A5.

Speaking about the Galaxy A5 (2016), a major change that was brought with it as compared to the first version, was the fingerprint scanner. The same is expected in the Galaxy A5 (2017). The smartphone as mentioned above was launched at a price tag of Rs 29,400 in India but it is currently available online for Rs 21,900. Furthermore, the 5.2-inch display in the Galaxy A5 (2016) is a full HD Super AMOLED display. Its onboard storage is 16GB, which is further expandable up to 128GB.

The Galaxy A5 (2017) will possibly come with a bigger internal storage and expandable storage support as well. The 13-megapixel rear camera on the Galaxy A5 (2016) comes with features like Optical Image Stabilization, AF and LED flash. Up front is a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The Galaxy A5 (2017) could come with similar features or retain the same, as slight improvements are expected and also, if launched in India, is expected to be in the same mid-range category.

In addition to the Galaxy A series, Samsung is also said to be working on the 2017 versions of two more A-series smartphones – the
Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A7 . The Galaxy A3 (2017) has also been spotted on several benchmark websites and is expected to feature a 4.7-inch display with 1.5GHz octa-core processor. Its RAM is expected to be 1.8GB and internal storage 8GB which would be expandable up to 32GB. As for the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017), its GFXBench listing suggests that it will feature a 5.5-inch full HD display with a 1.8GHz octa-core processor running under its hood. Onboard storage of 32GB and 3GB of RAM are also expected along with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 wrapped under TouchWiz UI. Its key highlight would be the expected 16-megapixel rear and front cameras.
