Darren Sammy has been ruled out of the remainder of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2015 after he fractured his left hand. Out-of-favour England batsman, Kevin Pietersen will lead St Lucia for the remainder of the tournament while Keron Cottoy was named as Sammy's replacement.
Sammy was hit on his left-hand by an Andre Russell delivery while batting in the match against Jamaica Tallawahs and was forced to retire hurt on 29. He returned to field, but did not bowl. Scans later revealed that the allrounder had suffered an incomplete fracture, ruling him out of action for four weeks.
"It's a real shame for Darren. He's one of the biggest names in the CPL and a great leader for the Zouks," Tom Moody, director of cricket, Hero CPL, said. "We wish him a speedy recovery, and knowing the kind of guy he is, I'm sure he'll continue to be an inspirational part of the squad for the rest of the tournament, even though he won't actually be out in the middle."
Sammy scored 81 runs in six innings and picked up six wickets in the ongoing edition of CPL, while he led Zouks to three wins this season.
